How lucrative is working in the online gambling industry?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I have recently finished university and am looking for a job. I have been thinking about working in the online gambling industry and I hear that it is a good industry to work in because the industry is booming and the ladder for money goes up very high and very quickly.

I was wondering if there is anyone within this industry can confirm or tell me otherwise whether this industry is good to work in – I have got an interview as a Markets Operator Trainee to start myself off, and I have been told that once I have 6-12 months experience many more doors will open for jobs higher paid in the industry that require that experience.

Thanks a lot!
PS I am not from US I am from UK where online gambling is extremely legal still :)

Thursday, August 20th, 2009
Among various methods of gambling, online casino gambling has become a trend lately. These online casinos are known by several names such as Internet casino, virtual casino etc. The concept of online casino is the same as that of land based casinos. The main advantage of online casino gambling over traditional land based gambling is that it can be done at any hour from any corner of the world. Online casinos give enormous opportunities to gamers to play and earn huge amount of profits. Most of the casinos offer high payback percentages and that is the most lucrative aspect of online casinos.

There are a couple of casinos that make tall promises in terms of unbelievably high payback percentages in regard to slot machine games like poker. There are also a few casinos that use a well programmed random number generator. In such casinos, table games usually have a preset house edge. The payout percentage is fixed and is decided according to rules of the game.

Online casinos can be broadly classified into three categories namely web based online casino, live based casino and lastly download based online casino. Web based casinos allow gamers to play their favourite games without even downloading the specialised software. Games are played either through HTML interface or browser plugins such as Macromedia Shockwave and Macromedia Flash. Download-based online casinos, on the other hand, have a mandatory requirement to download the software. In fact, you cannot start playing unless and until you download this software. Live casinos provide live gaming environment to its players that makes the game more enjoyable.

Gamers playing at online casinos usually never leave the casino without earning profits. Reward can be in cash or kind. Every time, it is not necessary that you will get handsome cash. Sometimes, you don’t get cash at all but you get an opportunity to win exciting jackpots and several kinds of bonuses. There are bonuses on new sign-ups. Most of the online casinos require you to pay a certain amount before allowing you to try your luck in online casino gambling.

There are some online gambling casinos that provide its gamers with cash back bonus in which you get back a specific portion of the total amount you lost in the game. Online gaming offers an average gamer numerous opportunities to multiply his/her income by several times. There are lots of lucrative casino bonuses that include instant cash bonus, sign up bonus, no deposit casino bonus and many more. The best part about online casino gambling is that without investing even a single penny, you can become rich overnight. There are many casinos that allow you to play for free. In fact, for opening account, the casino gives free bonus; that is more than what one could hope for. Monthly bonuses have also become a part of strategy of most of the online casinos to entice visitors. But that is an added advantage. So, who wouldn’t mind receiving a certain amount of money every month?

What most of the gamblers do is they don’t make any investment to play games at online casino. They simply use the bonus amount to gamble and win further prizes. So many gamblers have become millionaires within a short span of time. All this has been possible through online gambling at casino. To conclude, online casino gambling is believed to be one of the quickest and most lucrative means of earning money.

Online Casinos to Avoid

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Online casinos to avoid are not just those associated with low joining bonuses or those based overseas. Online gaming is great fun. Jackpots at online sites can be much higher than traditional casinos because of the much lower overheads of any online business as opposed to its bricks and mortar equivalent. But which should you trust and which do you run from? Here are some criteria you need to consider when deciding which online casinos to play at. This list is by no means exhaustive.

Avoid bad spelling and grammar on websites. Any online business worth its salt pays attention to detail. That includes things like checking spelling, punctuation and grammar. If a website owner doesn’t bother about those basic things then what is to be expected of their customer care? Worse still, if the bad spelling and grammar is there not because the website owner didn’t care about it, but because the owner wasn’t capable of correcting it – in other words, that was the best he could do – then there is a real problem. Just click away from there as soon as possible.

Avoid any online casinos associated with spam. It is likely that any email spam you get about online casinos will originate from over-zealous affiliates who haven’t learned the rules yet, and not the casinos themselves. However, all reputable online businesses make it quite clear in the terms and conditions of their affiliate programs that spam will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any online business which is slack on this policy should be given a wide berth, whether it has acted in good faith or not.

There are lists of online casinos to avoid in various rogue casino lists. There are blacklists and other “not recommended” lists which you can access just by typing a query in the search engines. Try typing in “Name of Casino” + “scam” or “blacklist”. It’s true that online casinos are run with properly regulated procedures nowadays, but that wasn’t true even as short a time as five or six years ago. Vigilant online casino watchdogs have a long memory. Even though the casino may have cleaned up its act since being placed on such a list, it won’t do you any harm to avoid them if they have been listed in the past. It also encourages new casinos not to stray from the straight and narrow.

Misappropriation of fair-play seals and logos. This includes accreditation to reputable sounding but fake “authorities” and “ethical commissions”. Look out for accreditation to eCOGRA (eCommerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) as a sign of genuine probity. That’s not to say that if they’re not on the list they are an online casino to avoid, just that it’s a sign that a casino has reached a certain standard of worthiness.

The online casino should have transparency of auditing of both its accounts and its log files. Look for references to third party auditing in the online casino’s terms and conditions.

Online casinos to avoid also include those which do not respond to enquiries or complaints. Unfortunately there is no way you can tell this from the online casino’s site itself, as they are not going to say bad things about themselves! This is where it’s useful to join online forums where such matters as which online casinos to avoid are regularly aired. Be aware of people who simply have a grudge against individual casinos because they have been unlucky. But also look out for several people saying the same thing about the same casino; consensus usually means there’s something to complain about.

Online casinos to avoid like the plague, along with any other online business, are those where the chief contact email is a hotmail or a yahoo address! Or any free account, for that matter. If the casino is called CasinoName, then the contact email address should be something like support “at” CasinoName or admin “at” CasinoName.

Online Gambling Provides Higher Rates of Return

Monday, August 10th, 2009
Your best bet for casino gambling is playing online. Online Casinos offer better than Vegas odds, deposit matches, convenience and a wider variety of games. There is a high level of competition between these casinos because of the ease of moving between them. They are competing not only with each other, but with land based casinos. Online casinos do not have the large overhead of land based casinos and this savings is passed on to the player.

Online casinos do not have the expenses of traditional casinos. Lavish Vegas casinos with neon lights, multimillion dollar lobbies and dancing fountains are nice, but someone has to pay for them. Cyber casinos look like small office buildings with 10 or 12 employees. Their largest expenses are licensing the casino software and monitoring for fraudulent activities.

Traditional casinos will raise table minimums and offer fewer high paying slot machines during peak hours. There is limited competition and they have a captive audience. If the number of players looking for lower limit tables and higher paying slot machines became great enough a new casino would eventually fill this need. This is the law of supply and demand. In cyberspace this luxury does not exist. The ease of opening a new online casino to fill a void makes this practice impossible.

In 2002, the United States Court of Appeals decided that the Federal Wire Act applies only to online sports betting and not to games of chance. This legalized online casino gambling for US players. However, it did not make it legal to open an online casino inside the United States. It is very difficult to collect taxes on winnings from online casinos, because they are based outside of the United States. They do not report winnings to the IRS and this has become a point of contention with both opponents and proponents of allowing US casinos to open online casinos.

In response to the inability to collect taxes the US Government has but many restrictions on the banking industry. These restrictions include coding online casino deposits and not allowing them from 13 states. The states that do not allow credit card deposits to online casinos are Michigan, Illinois, Louisiana, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Indiana, Nevada, South Dakota, New Jersey and New York. Banks and players quickly discovered that anonymous prepaid debit cards were the way around this.

Online casinos offer deposit match bonuses. These bonuses are largest on initial deposits. Many online casinos will double your initial deposit up to around $1,000. Some will continue to double, or at least match a percentage of, your first few deposits. This is done in hopes that once the player has set up their account it will be easier just to continue playing at the same casino. Since there are only a few proven software packages, most online casinos are very similar. The ones that have set up their own software are generally not as secure. The match bonuses increase your odds and extend the amount of time you will spend playing with the same amount of money. Overall the higher payout percentages, match bonuses and convenience of not having to travel make online gambling and better bet than traveling to a casino.

What are the legal consequences of online gambling, and the likelihood of being caught and/or prosecuted?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Basically, if I gamble online, which is now illegal in the U.S., am I risking anything big? Would I get arrested? Fined? And more importantly, how would the FBI catch me? Would they? Has there been any cases yet of someone prosecuted for online gambling?
